Introduction
This unit prepares students to be career-ready as environmental engineers. It provides an opportunity to integrate the knowledge and technical skills acquired from various environmental engineering sub-disciplines through a comprehensive, real-world design project. Students will work in teams to develop solutions for environmental challenges. They will go through all key steps of an engineering project, from early planning and design to possible implementation. Along the way, students will learn to develop solutions that not only meet regulations but also strive for long-term sustainability, utilising concepts such as life cycle thinking and net-zero goals. The unit includes interactive learning activities such as project briefings and board meeting simulations. These are designed to help students build skills in teamwork, communication, and project management, all of which are important for future engineering practice. Students will also apply principles of engineering ethics throughout the project. They will be encouraged to consider the wider impact of their decisions on the environment, society, and economy. By completing this unit, students will be better prepared to enter the workforce as responsible and capable environmental engineers.
