Introduction
Final year engineering students, in making the transition from university to the workplace or to further study, need to make sense of the learning they have gained throughout their engineering studies. In engineering, the Environmental Engineering Research Project is the vehicle for students to synthesise their learning across their engineering studies and demonstrate their development of graduate attributes. The Environmental Engineering Research Project is structured as two consecutive linked semester-long units - Environmental Engineering Research Project 1 and 2. This unit, Environmental Engineering Research Project 2, is the second of the two. The project’s civil engineering problem must be consistent across the two units. The Environmental Engineering Research Project requires students to identify, plan, research, complete and communicate their solution to a significant environmental engineering problem with some independence. Students need to show initiative and work independently on their project. This unit supports students’ project and research skills in four ways:- Through regular recorded contact with the project’s academic supervisor.
- By providing instruction in research methods, academic writing and communications skills.
- Access to Faculty staff and resources, and, if applicable, assistance from staff with industry liaisons.
- Completing progress reporting e.g. reflective practice journals.

Unit Learning Outcomes
- 1 deploy an appropriate combination of knowledge, research, analytical methods, crossdisciplinary learning skills, and creativity to conceive, design, and validate solutions to complex engineering problems with some intellectual independence, GC1, GC2, GC4, GC6
